Overview
Studying abroad is one of the longest purchase decisions a family ever makes, and Crownwell was built to make that decision navigable.
It begins with a vague ambition, maybe Canada, maybe the UK, and ends eighteen months later with a visa appointment and a suitcase. In between sit university shortlists, course comparisons, entry requirements, English tests, deadlines, budgets and a parent asking whether all of this is really necessary. The brief wasn't build a website for a consultancy, it was take a decision that overwhelms people and make it navigable, then be present at the moment they get stuck.
Challenge
The research phase is enormous and most of it happens before contact, students spend months reading before they ever speak to a counselor, so a platform that only captures leads misses the entire period where trust is actually formed. Requirements are the real friction point, and they usually arrive too late, students fall in love with a university and discover months in that they don't meet the entry criteria or the deadline passed, information that exists but sits buried on institutional websites written for administrators. Two audiences read the same journey too, the student decides emotionally, where they want to live, what they want to become, while the parent decides financially, cost, safety, outcomes, and content that speaks to only one loses the other, since both hold veto power. And the category runs on trust it hasn't earned, study-abroad consulting carries a reputation for overpromising and hidden fees in this market, so any new platform inherits that skepticism whether it deserves it or not.
Approach
Requirements were surfaced early, even when it cost a lead, the platform shows eligibility and admission criteria at the exploration stage rather than after enquiry, which loses some students who discover they don't qualify but earns the ones who remain, since nobody has wasted anyone's time. The journey was broken into visible stages, explore, shortlist, check requirements, prepare, apply, converting an overwhelming decision into a sequence rather than a fog. Counselors were placed where students actually stall, not as a floating contact button but at the specific points where research reliably breaks down, choosing between similar courses, understanding requirements, preparing documentation. And the content was written for both readers at once, ambition and aspiration for the student, cost, safety and timelines for the parent, since both are often reading the same screen.
Result
Crownwell is a live platform guiding students through university and course selection, with requirements surfaced before enquiry, resulting in fewer wasted consultations on both sides. Specific figures for students served, applications supported and enquiry volume are available on request.
