Overview

Most e-commerce projects worry about conversion. Wallpezia worries about something different, cost per visitor.

Wallpezia serves free licensed wallpapers, PNG images, videos and sounds. Users arrive, browse and download, and every one of those actions moves data. When the product is free and the traffic is large, delivery cost isn't an infrastructure detail, it's the business model. This isn't a store where a slow page costs a sale, it's a platform where an inefficient page costs money on every single visit, whether or not the visitor downloads anything.

Challenge

Tens of thousands of assets are worthless if a user can't reach the one they want in a few taps, so categories, tags and search had to do real work, decided early, since retagging a large library later is expensive and error-prone. Mobile is effectively the whole audience, people choosing wallpapers for their phone on their phone, usually on mobile data, with no purchase intent holding them in place if the experience is slow. Images are the content and the cost at once, a thumbnail grid is the core interface and the heaviest thing on the page. And nobody arrives with Wallpezia bookmarked, search is the acquisition channel, so every category and asset needs to be indexable and well described to be found at all.

Approach

The browse grid was treated as the product itself, not the homepage or the download page, since it's where users spend their time, where discovery happens, and where cost accumulates. Image delivery was engineered rather than assumed, correct sizing per device, modern formats, lazy loading and CDN delivery, the unglamorous work that decides both experience and margin on a free platform. Structure was designed for search from the start, since organic search is how a content platform grows, and retrofitting SEO structure into a large library later means costly URL changes at scale. Downloads were kept free of friction too, with no account wall between a user and a file, since every extra step before a download costs conversions.

Result

Wallpezia is a live platform serving wallpapers, PNGs, videos and sounds at genuine catalogue scale, with a mobile-first browse experience built around how the audience actually uses it. Specific figures for library size, monthly visitors and downloads served are available on request.
